* Do you know what the PTR record is?

Suggested article from our blog: What is a PTR record?

The PTR records is a simple text record that connects one IP address to one hostname. People use it for verification of the IP address and see the hostname related to it. This practice is called Reverse DNS lookup.

Why does it matter? The verification that the PTR records provide is crucial to the function of the mail servers. The mail servers use PTR to ensure that the incoming mails are coming from the right source. If there is no PTR, the incoming mails will go directly to spam for security reasons.

How to create a PTR record?

The first step is to create a Reverse DNS zone. There you can simply add a PTR record. For each IP address, there could be just one PTR record. This is important. Adding other PTR records for the same IP addresses will result in problems. To get more information about PTR records, click here!
